Call for nomination for the NMI Basketball Federation Board of Directors

The Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation is now accepting nominations for the NMIBF Board of Directors.

James Lee, current NMIBF president, vice president Dave Apatang and secretary Mike Mercado will be stepping down, along with two other board of directors. Marlene Lumabi, Sylvina Simram, Nathan Mook, and Rachel Langu will remain on the board as part of the staggered board.

Lee said, “It has been an honor to serve the people of NMI for the past 6 years. I want to extend my gratitude to the community and my Board of Directors for entrusting me with the leadership of our basketball program. As I step down at the end of this election term, I assure you I will remain committed to our sports community and continue supporting our basketball federation. I'm excited to support the incoming board and look forward to seeing the continued growth of our program.”

Nominees Qualifications:

• Bonafide residents of the CNMI for a period of not less than two (2) years at the time of the nomination and election, and must remain bona fide residents throughout the term of the office (2026-2030).

• Nominees must be nominated by a active CNMI basketball member/club. Nomination should be made through a letter from the member/club with nominee’s resume and a letter of acceptance from the nominee.

Election:

• A total of nine (9) NMIBF Board of Directors are to be elected, as per Article IV, Section 3 of the NMIBF Bylaws

• However, under Article IV, Section 5, Staggered Board, only five (5) out of nine (9) NMIBF Board of Directors are to be elected for this election term (2026-2030)

• Elections will be conducted during the NMIBF Annual General Membership meeting in April 11th, 2026. Directors shall be elected by a simple majority of members qualified to vote.
