CNMI DOL strengthens safeguards against fraud, human trafficking
The CNMI Department of Labor has implemented a new business verification policy to ensure that only legitimate and lawfully registered businesses can post a Job Vacancy Announcement on their website and job board.
āOur job board is a trusted public platform connecting job seekers and employers. This policy reinforces our commitment to safeguard that trust and ensure all postings represent legitimate employment opportunities,ā said Secretary of Labor Leila Fleming Staffler.
According to CNMI DOL, the updated requirements aim to protect workers and the integrity of the CNMI labor system by preventing the misuse of the DOLās online platform for fraudulent employment activities or human trafficking schemes.
DOL said under the new policy, all businesses must undergo verification before being authorized to post job openings on the DOL website. Employers are required to submit:
A valid CNMI Business License, including all relevant endorsements; and
A valid Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) confirmation letter issued by the IRS.
āBusinesses must also provide updated documents whenever their license or EIN information changes. Unverified or noncompliant businesses will be denied access to post JV As. Any entity found engaging in fraudulent activity or human trafficking will be permanently banned and reported to the appropriate authorities,ā they explained.
āWe are taking proactive steps to ensure that no one uses our system to exploit vulnerable workers,ā Secretary Staffler added. āThis is about protecting our people and ensuring businesses operating in good faith can hire responsibly.ā
