DPS: Man found unresponsive in the waters off Micro Beach
At approximately 10:16 a.m., DPS Central received a 911 call from a female caller reporting that she observed a person floating approximately 30 feet offshore from Micro Beach. The individual was observed floating face-up in the water.
DPS Marine Patrol personnel responded and arrived at approximately 10:27 a.m. Responding personnel entered the water, reached the individual, and brought him to shore. DFEMS EMS personnel immediately began CPR and other life-saving measures.
The 58-year-old male was transported to Commonwealth Health Center (CHCC), where he was later pronounced deceased by the attending physician.
Preliminary information indicates that the individual had departed from the Smiling Cove Marina area at approximately 9:30 a.m. aboard a vessel identified as CM 972 PU and was reportedly alone. A family member stated that the individual was observed entering the water while holding onto the vessel.
The vessel later washed ashore near Micro Beach.
During a preliminary observation of the vessel, officers observed two coolers. One cooler contained four 12-ounce cans of beer, while the other contained fish. Officers also observed that no personal flotation device (PFD) or other readily identifiable safety equipment was aboard the vessel.
The vessel has been secured at the Marine Patrol Section (MPS) for further processing as part of the investigation
The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation. DPS asks anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to contact the Marine Patrol Section at (670) 989-8655
