Fundraiser in Honolulu Brings Community Together to Raise Awareness, Donations for Typhoon Relief

Inspired by the local response to the Lahaina fires and Kona Low storms, Lauren Taijeron of Lula Fox organized a Typhoon Bavi Relief Fundraiser at ʻAwa Hou! Kava Lounge in Honolulu, Hawai’i on the evening of Thursday, July 30, 2026 (HST).

Taijeron and Fox, both of whom have roots on Guam, aimed to raise awareness about the climate disasters affecting the Mariana Islands and the broader Pacific while also raising funds for the Micronesian Climate Change Alliance (MCCA). Reflecting on what inspired them to organize the event, Taijeron shared, “…thinking of Typhoon Mawar, and then more recently the past two typhoons that hit our islands and really impacted Luta, it was very obvious to me that there was something that we needed to do.”

The fundraiser featured Chamorro food available with a suggested sliding-scale donation, as well as a silent auction showcasing prizes donated by Marianas-rooted creators. Through these efforts, the organizers raised more than $1,000, all of which will go directly to MCCA to support their work.
