Group runs hit the pavement once again
Run Saipan’s group runs have hit the pavement officially since Super Typhoon Sinlaku, with its first one as the sun set in the backdrop at the Garapan Fishing Base on Wednesday, May 20.
Open and free to all participants, the event is for anyone wanting to walk, jog, or run at their own pace in a social setting, rather than in a sanctioned, competitive road race—setting the tone for more runs to come after Sinlaku.
While the distance target is 5K, Run Saipan encourages participants to simply exercise for 30 minutes, suggesting that those who cannot keep up with the lead pacer, to turn around at the 15-minute mark on their own watches.
With their first group run back, Ed Dela Cruz Jr., president of Run Saipan said, “It’s just great that people came out here. They get to share their trials, their emotions, and get to support each other in the running community.”
He added, “The great thing is there’s no expectations and no standards for this. We all just want to run, walk, or jog together as a community.”
The first run was led by Jordan Ruiz aka Jordan Paradise. He said before the run, “I’m not going to leave anyone in the dust, but just more so to kind of bring people together… it’s an easy run. When we do the group runs, it’s kind of an easy run, we’re just cruising, and even talking and vibing out.”

Run Saipan is also in the works for more road races to come.
