Guam Governor calls for full membership at 55th Annual Pacific Islands Forum

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero attended the 55th Annual Pacific Islands Forum in Palau, where she called for Guam’s current status as an Associate Member to advance to Full Membership in the Forum.

Speaking during the Leaders’ Dialogue with Associate Members, Country Observers and Observer Organisations, Leon Guerrero addressed Pacific leaders on behalf of Guam, emphasizing the importance of meaningful participation in regional decision-making and Pacific regionalism.

During the same session, Folasaaitu Sorepa Fata-Thomas of American Samoa and Alapati Pita Tavite of Tokelau also advocated for their respective territories to attain Full Membership in the Forum.

As Leon Guerrero’s final Pacific Islands Forum as Governor of Guam, she made two priorities clear: securing a stronger voice for Guam through full membership and strengthening regional partnerships that can provide the financial support needed to advance shared priorities with the wider pacific region.

The CNMI was not in attendance at the Leaders’ Dialogue with Associate Members, Country Observers and Observer Organisations.
