Latte Built opens strong after Sinlaku
In the days after Super Typhoon Sinlaku, Latte Built Gym in Chalan Kanoa has reopened its doors, doing what it can while the island continues to recover.
Pattylyn Mendiola, one staff member of the gym said the facility has been operating since Monday, April 20, and has been open on limited hours from 6am to 6pm, Monday through Saturday.
While parts of the gym are up and running, not everything is back to normal. The gym floor itself is open, but cardio equipment remains off for now due to the ongoing power outage. Restrooms are also unavailable because there’s still no water. Generators are being used on-site, mainly to keep computers running.
For members, check-ins are being done manually, but staff said the process has been going smoothly so far.
Even with the limitations, Latte Built has shifted some of its focus toward helping the community.
Through Instagram and Facebook, they’ve been asking for donations for shelters—things like clothes, shoes, blankets, and pillows.
Mendiola also shared a simple message for the community: “I hope you guys are all doing good. We’re very thankful for the donations for our kids especially at the shelters, and I hope you guys are doing good on our recovery from typhoon Sinlaku.”
