Marianas Arrival Trends June 2026

The Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) reports that visitor arrivals to the Marianas totaled 1,497 in June 2026, an 81% decrease compared to 7,874 visitors in June 2025. The destination was hit by Super Typhoon Sinlaku in mid-April, and the temporary suspension of international flights resulted in arrival declines of 72% in April and 81% in both May and June compared to the same months last year. A majority of arrivals over the three-month period following the typhoon were rescue, relief, and recovery personnel. International flights began resuming in late June, marking the beginning of increased leisure travel.
South Korea
Visitor arrivals from the top source market of South Korea totaled 57 in June 2026 compared to 4,793 arrivals last June. Jeju Air resumed direct Seoul-Saipan flights beginning June 20 and has announced it will continue its 4x weekly flights to the destination through March 2027.
The MVA participated in the 2026 Brand USA Korea Sales Mission, which was held on July 19-21 in Seoul, highlighting the Marianas as a Far From Ordinary destination offering scenic outdoor experiences, distinctive cultural heritage, historical attractions, and activities for diverse market segments. The tourism office introduced the destination to 80 travel agents, delved deeper in 32 one-on-one appointments with travel agents, and participated in a VIP reception attended by 70 travel-industry guests, seeking future partnerships and travel product development.
The MVA also held a golf specialized travel agent FAM trip on July 23-27, providing CEO-level and other travel trade representatives with firsthand experience of the Marianas’ travel diverse offerings.
Japan Market
Visitor arrivals from Japan fell 91% to 48 arrivals in June 2026 compared to 519 in June 2025. United Airlines resumed its three weekly direct flights from Tokyo Narita to Saipan on August 2. To support the resumption of direct service, the MVA launched travel-trade promotions in Japan, including the Enjoy Saipan campaign with JTB. The campaign connects visitors with special offers from participating local hotels, restaurants, activity providers, and souvenir shops.
The MVA also joined the Brand USA Japan Sales Mission in Tokyo on July 22–24 and in Osaka on July 27. A series of sales meetings were also held with United Airlines and leading travel agencies JTB and HIS to discuss Marianas tourism recovery initiatives following Sinlaku and to request continued commitment to the destination long-term.
China Market
Arrivals from China dropped 53% in June to 44 visitors compared to 94 arrivals a year ago. Hong Kong Airlines resumed Hong Kong-Saipan service on July 12, signalling an uptick in the market. The Marianas receives most Chinese visitors under the CNMI Economic Vitality & Security Travel Authorization Program (EVS-TAP) administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. EVS-TAP is a restricted sub-program of the Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program that allows prescreened nationals of the People's Republic of China to travel to the U.S. destination without a visa under specified conditions. Before the pandemic, visitor arrivals from China comprised about 44% of Marianas tourism.
