A total of 19 Department of Public Works staff were recognized during the Solid Waste Management Award Ceremony organized by the Northern Marianas Technical Institute (NMTECH) on Thursday at the Azucena Hall in Crowne Plaza.

There were nine students from Saipan, five from Rota, and five from Tinian. They participated in the Solid Waste Management training program which was held in collaboration with the Department of Public Works, the Office of Planning & Development, and NMTECH.

The ceremony featured speeches from DPW Secretary Ray Yumul, instructors Ricardo Miranda and James Benavente, and NMTECH CEO Jodina Attao. Midway through the ceremony, a moment of silence was held for Saipan’s Lee Robin Kaipat, who passed away before completing the program.

The event concluded with individual recognition of each student, followed by a group photo and a congratulatory lunch—celebrating the students' dedication to environmental responsibility and waste management across the CNMI.
