The CNMI Public School System, in celebration of Education Day and 37 years of public education, awarded the School Year 2025–2026 State Level “Of the Year” winners on Wednesday at their respective campuses, just before Thanksgiving celebrations.

At the CNMI’s biggest public school, Marianas High School, teachers and students filled the cafeteria with spirited chatter as they waited for the morning’s announcements. After a drum roll and loud cheers, MHS’ Dr. Marifi Doculan was presented with the most prestigious and anticipated honor—the Teacher of the Year award—and received her plaque along with a $1,500 check from Bank of Guam. Also from MHS, Gabrielle Race was recognized as the Counselor of the Year.

In her remarks, Doculan’s longtime friend Dr. Dora B. Miura said, “Thank you for being a beacon to us teachers, thank you for being an inspiration to your students, and thank you for being a team player in our PSS.”

Education Commissioner Dr. Lawrence F. Camacho echoed a message he shared at all of this year’s ceremonies: “The real value in setting and achieving goals lies not in the rewards you receive but in the person you become as a result of achieving your goals.”

Speaking to Doculan, he added, “You become this champion among champions, among many teachers… You really inspire us so that we can wake up each and every day to make sure we are arming each of our teachers with everything they need. We thank you and congratulate you.” He then congratulated all of the Teacher of the Year finalists.

Dandan Middle School’s Catherine Borja-Flores was named Librarian of the Year.

Francisco M. Sablan Elementary’s Michael Suazo received the Teacher Aide of the Year award.

Kagman High School’s John Pineda was named Instructor of the Year, while KHS’ Lando Laxamana earned the Trades and Maintenance Staff of the Year award.

Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School’s Angelica Atalig was named School Administrative Support Staff of the Year.

Tinian’s Victor Linan earned the Pupil Transportation Staff of the Year award.

Saipan Southern High School’s Janet Aniciete was named Instructional Technology & Distance Education Teacher of the Year.

The Central Administrative Support Staff of the Year award went to Lorie Lynn Baulechong.
