The CNMI Public School System's Child Nutrition Program Summer Food Service Program is underway in Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, with free lunch meals available to all children 18 years old and younger. The program began Monday, June 8, and will run through Friday, July 31, from 9am to 12pm excluding holidays and while supplies last.

Children must be present to receive a meal, including toddlers and infants. However, due to the recent super typhoon, parents who are unable to bring their children may pick up meals on their behalf by presenting the child's ID. Children without IDs must be present to receive a meal.

On Saipan, meal distribution sites are Garapan Elementary School, Kagman Elementary School, Saipan Southern High School, Oleai Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, Dandan Middle School, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, and Tanapag Middle School. Tinian Elementary School serves as the distribution site on Tinian, while Sinapalo Elementary School and Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School are serving Rota.

At the Garapan Elementary School on Tuesday, June 9, Child Nutrition Program part-time food monitor Sandy Asao encouraged families to take advantage of the free meals available for children throughout the summer. “We want the kids to have access to the meals that we would usually have for them during the school year,” she said about the program.

The flow of the distribution so far, she said, has been good. “We have a line up of cars and we have kids walking in with parents to pick up their meals—it’s good.”
