Marianas Press obtained the full letter by former lawmaker Vinnie Sablan, in which he informed the local GOP leadership of his withdrawal of his intent to seek the party’s nomination for governor. He also shared his intent to seek their endorsement for his Senate campaign.

Earlier this week, multiple sources confirmed that the gubernatorial primary set for April was canceled.

Read the full letter on Marianas Press:

“I submit this letter to formally rescind my previous letter expressing my intent to seek the Republican Party's nomination for Governor in the 2026 General Election.

After deep reflection and consultation with my family and supporters, I have concluded that it is in the best interest of the Republican Party to avoid a Primary Election for Governor and instead unify our efforts behind a single candidate. With that in mind, I have decided to pursue election to the Commonwealth Legislature and respectfully request the endorsement and support of the CNMI Republican Party.

I believe that serving in the Legislature will allow me to contribute in a focused and impactful manner by advancing fiscally responsible policies, strengthening our economy, and promoting transparent and accountable governance. My objective is to provide steady, principled leadership that delivers practical solutions and effective representation for the people of our Commonwealth.

My commitment to the Republican Party's principles and values remains unwavering. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with party leadership and fellow members to move our Commonwealth forward, expand economic opportunity, and uphold the highest standards of public trust.

With humility and respect, I seek the Party's support and guidance as I prepare to run for a seat in the Senate. I look forward to working together with a shared purpose for the continued progress and prosperity of our islands.

Thank you for your leadership, guidance, and continued commitment to the CNMI Republican Party. I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration. Sen mas, si Yu'us ma'åse' yan ghilisow.”
