NMI paddlers raising funds for Guam Micro Cup
About 50 CNMI paddlers from the Saipan Paddling Club, Marianas Pacific Paddlers, and Marianas Outrigger Club are gearing up and fundraising for their trip down south to Guam for the 26th Annual Micronesia Cup Canoe Race, which will be held Oct. 15-18.
While the Northern Marianas National Paddle Sports Federation decided to cancel the remainder of its events for the year, it remains dedicated to supporting the teams representing the CNMI at the Micro Cup, so they held a scrimmage at Kilili Beach on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Catching up with the teams during their scrimmage, MPP president Annie Trusso said they will be having a happy hour sendoff at Black 8 Pool Bar on Oct. 3, with tickets at $20 each and a live pig as the grand prize. She also thanked their supporters who participated in their recent bingo fundraiser.
For SPC, Jenisha Dubrall said they will have a carwash on Oct. 10 at the Shell in Dandan from 8am to 2pm, with tickets at $10 each. They also have a GoFundMe link to donate to here: https://gofund.me/031ec14d4
As for MOC, Dan Taitano said they will be having a hot-lunch fundraiser for $10 each on Oct. 10 at one of the Kilili pavilions.
Talking about how their clubs are doing this year, Trusso said, “It has obviously been a tumultuous year. Obviously, we’ve had the two super typhoons, and in spite of that, our club has been committed to getting back in the water. I think it’s safe to say we’ve all found some reprieve and solace, some hope in being together and sharing the time being on the water.”
“Thank you to Pad Fed for still putting on these races for us to scrimmage against each other so we can prepare for Micro Cup,” she said. “And most importantly, our club feels so grateful to the community, because in spite of the hardships that we’ve been facing this year especially, people have shown up for us in so many ways.”
Dubrall echoed Trusso’s sentiments and added, “I think our performance that we will showcase in Guam will show just how strong we are and how we are able to bounce back from things no matter how hard. It’s been tough mentally, physically, and financially, but through it all, I think Saipan as a whole, we’re going to do our best despite all our setbacks.”

Ol’Aces hold on to win Jr. title, 11-10
It’s better late than never as the last division of the 2026 Saipan Baseball League finally wrapped up on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
The Junior League division was cut short due to two super typhoons, but Ol’Aces held it down in the championships to win in nail-biting fashion, 11-10, over the Mariners.
The Ol’Aces jumped to an early lead as they got on the board first with four runs in the first inning. The Mariners then found their swing and scored three in the second to get within one, 4-3.
However, Ol’Aces lengthened their lead with four more runs at the bottom of the second for an 8-3 game. The Mariners then exploded in the fifth inning as they scored five back-to-back runs, while the Ol’Aces drove in just two more runs in the third and fourth for a 10-8 game. Ol’Aces then scored just one more run at the bottom of the fifth to make it 11-8.
With the pressure on Ol’Aces’ closer Liam Sablan, two runs scored at the top of the last inning for the Mariners to get within one, 10-11. But, with two outs and two strikes on the final batter, Sablan painted the strike zone to clinch the championship via strikeout.
Sablan said he felt a lot of pressure getting the final three outs to seal the win, but was happy when they finally won it. “Ever since my teammates started motivating me, [the pressure] went lower,” he said. “I felt happy because this is my first championship. I usually get second place.”
As for his teammates, he said, “I love them and I give them and my coaches a shoutout.”
Sablan shared that he has been playing baseball since he was four and said that he loves it. “I love playing baseball. Ever since my dad passed, I started getting better and better,” he said. He then dedicated the win to his family and his late father.

Slim Reapers, Air Ballers claim G-Rollers 3x3 tourney champs
After a whole afternoon of 3x3 basketball action, Team Slim Reapers were crowned champions of the U17 division, while team Air Ballers claimed the U15 championships in the Inaugural Pacific-Amusement 2026 G-Rollers Youth 3x3 BBall Showdown at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Slim Reapers, made up of Matthew P., Josh Y., Nigel K., and Louis R., defeated the Sinlaku Survivors, 11-10, with the Air Ballers’ Justan Defang, Johnavan Camacho, Bruce Song, and Desmond Camacho winning by one as well, 10-9, over the Sixers.
On why they had the tourney, G-Rollers’ president Joe Diaz said, “The kids have been waiting for this after the storm. Our youth—and we invited everybody—we made it free due to the sponsors making it happen. Our board decided to push out this 3x3. There’s a lot going on with our national federation and 3x3 is what they’re really promoting so this is a good opportunity for a lot of our basketball players that are coming up.”
As for the skills and performance of the players, he said, “A lot of the performances I see—there’s a lot of potential. This is a good program for them to go up to the national program.”
The turnout, Diaz said, was great. Instead of eight teams per division, it went up to 10 in the U17, and nine in the U15 division as more kids wanted to join and play.
The G-Rollers Youth Sports Club, which was founded in 1999, also has more events coming up, with a 1v1 King of the Court tourney on Oct. 24-25 with the venue and time TBA; a Thanksgiving Hoopfest tourney on Nov. 25-29, with the venue and time also TBA. Then, the G-Rollers U15 and U17 teams are flying to Thailand for a youth basketball tournament, with a pending date as well.
Diaz then thanked the sponsors of the tourney including Pacific Amusement, Rep. Elias Rangamar, Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, and Rep. Vincent Aldan.
MCS walks it off, KHS undefeated
In a first game thriller, Mount Carmel School walked it off to their first win, while the last game of the night saw a shutout as Kagman High School kept their undefeated streak to three wins in the PSS-SBL Boys High School Baseball League on Friday, Sept. 25 at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
Meanwhile, the mid-season tourney that was supposed to be played on Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3 is canceled as said in an email by PSS Athletic Director Nick Gross due to wet and rainy forecast by the National Weather Service. The next game day is on Oct. 9, with the championship tourney slated for Oct. 14-16.

Hundreds join x-country meet, Gecko 5000
Hundreds of runners, parents, families, and volunteers kept Banzai Cliff and Marpi buzzing early Saturday morning for the All Schools Cross Country qualifier and concurrent Annual SIS Gecko 5000 Fun Run.
The annual Gecko 5000 is a fundraiser for Saipan International School that has existed for over two decades, with the course spanning from Banzai Cliff to the Last Command Post, extending past the dump further up Marpi, then back.
“We’re so grateful to partner this race with PSS Cross Country meet,” SIS Headmaster Martin Jambor said.
With the course always at Marpi, Jambor said, “A wise man said if things are working, you don’t really have to change the wheel. So yeah, we kind of stick to the same plan. Look at the weather. For me, it’s the most beautiful, scenic run—it can’t get any better. I know parking can be a little issue in the morning but I think it’s totally worth it for the hassle.”
He then gave thanks to their partners and sponsors. “We’re all living in difficult times here after Sinlaku and the current economic situation, but we’re here and we’re very grateful for all the support that we’re getting from the community, so thank you so much.”
