Town House Furniture & Appliances closes Saipan store

Town House Furniture & Appliances closed its Saipan furniture and appliances store after management said revenues in the CNMI can no longer sustain operations, marking the latest in a growing list of business shutdowns on the island.
In a closure notice, management said, “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close Town House Furniture & Appliances store in the CNMI,” adding that the company’s “last day of operation will be February 28, 2026.”
In an interview last Feb. 27 at the company’s office in Chalan Kanoa, management said the decision stemmed from a directive issued earlier this year by its Guam headquarters.
“We received a memo from the main office in Guam last January that they have, after careful consideration, decided to close Town House Furniture and Appliances,” management said. “Given the economic situation here in the CNMI, they’ve made a difficult decision to close the business. It’s because the revenues here cannot sustain to operate the business anymore.”
The company, which has operated in Guam for 75 years, thanked the CNMI community for its patronage and employees for their “hard work, loyalty, and dedication.”
Management emphasized that workers will not lose employment as a result of the closure.
“Our boss made sure that they’re not going to be displaced,” management said. “Because we have sister companies, so the employees at Town House, they’re going to be placed in our sister companies.”
Officials also clarified that the closure applies only to the retail operation, not the entire commercial complex.
“We are going to close the store. Just the Furniture and Appliances,” management said, confirming the Town House Shopping Center itself will remain.
The company said customers with existing warranties and recent purchases will continue to receive support.
“On their invoices, there is also the number of the office. So, if they have any problem with their furniture and appliances, they can call the office,” management said. “They will be taken care of.” Deliveries from recent sales will also be completed, with management adding, “We are still going to do the deliveries. We’re still going to take care of our customers.”
Management said the decision was planned internally before the public announcement. “It’s not a sudden decision,” the official said, adding that customers with concerns may contact the office at 235-6351 even after the store closes. The company also denied speculation involving affiliated businesses, saying there is “no truth” to rumors that KFC, operated locally by Jones & Guerrero, will close in the CNMI.
The closure adds to a wave of business shutdowns and suspensions across Saipan. National Office Supply is set to close in late July after about three decades in operation, while Pacific Islands Club Saipan and Grandvrio Resort Saipan have announced temporary closures.
Last year, DFS Saipan, Hollywood Theaters, and Gemkell Saipan, which operated luxury boutiques including Balenciaga, Givenchy, Chloe, and Kenzo at the ARC Building in Garapan, also announced their closures, reflecting continued economic headwinds affecting retail and tourism-dependent businesses.
