A Decomposing Body Found at a Residence on Rota

(DPS PR) On Saturday, September 5, 2026, at approximately 2:53 p.m., the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Rota received a request for a welfare check at a residence in the Liyo’ area. The caller reported detecting a foul odor and observing numerous flies in the vicinity of the residence.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the area and arrived at approximately 3:07 p.m. Upon arrival, officers observed a strong foul odor emanating from a two-story residence adjacent to the residence identified in the welfare-check request.

Officers looked through an open screen window and observed a male individual lying motionless and unresponsive inside the residence. Medical personnel were requested to respond to the scene.

At approximately 3:16 p.m., the Rota Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was activated and responded to the scene.

At approximately 3:42 p.m., detectives arrived and entered the residence. Detectives observed the individual exhibiting multiple signs of advanced decomposition. Detectives began processing the scene and documenting the individual’s condition and the surrounding area.

At approximately 5:13 p.m., the 73-year-old male was transported to the Rota Health Center, where the attending physician pronounced the individual deceased at approximately 5:34 p.m.

At approximately 5:46 p.m., the deceased individual was secured in the Rota Health Center morgue.

The circumstances surrounding the individual’s death remain under investigation. DPS Rota detectives are continuing to process the scene and gather information as part of the ongoing investigation.
