Built By Latte Built Jiro Montenejo
Welcome to MP's monthly segment, Built By Latte Built.
This segment highlights athletes and individuals training at Latte Built who are chasing their fitness goals and inspiring others along the way.
This month, we feature Jiro Montenejo, a dancer of 15 years, and founder of the nonprofit dance group The Profound Bandits.
Montenejo chose Latte Built to help him improve as a dancer. He first joined the gym after the Independence Day Run in August, when he received a free membership for running with the U.S. flag. From there, he decided to stay.
“Working out here really makes me become a better dancer and improve my skills as an athlete and as a dancer. I also saw that it was open 24 hours, so it helped me come here when I have free time. Being able to have this space is really important to me. The gym is close to where I live.”
Along with using the studio for dancing, Montenejo also uses the gym’s equipment to work on push, pull, and leg exercises.
“I was able to do a lot here with the equipment, especially the mirrors. I was able to use them as a way to look at myself, the way I dance, and the way I move… And, of course, health is wealth, so it helps me become stronger, healthier, and a better person, a better individual overall.”
With that said, his favorite feature of the gym as a dancer is the studio room with mirrors.
“We don’t have a studio as of right now, but being able to use the space to look at myself and create choreography, use the mirrors, and interact with everyone in the gym helps me with networking. And, of course, I can meet non-dancers and ask them if they want to dance.”
