Jang offers $500 reward after campaign signs vandalized
Independent Precinct 3 House of Representatives candidate Steve Jang is offering a $500 reward for information leading to those responsible for vandalizing four of his campaign signs along Beach Road.
Jang told Marianas Press Friday, Oct. 30, that he discovered the vandalism at around 6:30am on Oct. 30 when he found white paint splashed across his face on the signs.
He said the signs were still intact when he checked them at around 9:45pm Thursday.
"I'm deeply disappointed and sad to learn that four of my election signs were damaged," he said.
Three of the signs are located near the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, while the fourth is near National Office Supply along Beach Road.
Jang said each stainless steel campaign sign cost approximately $600 to $700 to produce. He estimated the damage at a little over $1,000, adding that the defaced signs cannot be retouched and would require replacement.
"It's permanently damaged," he said.
Jang said he has reported the incident to the Department of Public Safety but has yet to notify the Commonwealth Election Commission.
The businessman, who has lived on Saipan for more than 30 years, urged residents to respect political differences rather than resort to vandalism.
"However, destroying somebody's property is not right. It's wrong," he said.
"Look, this is a very cheap shot. Let's not do this."
Anyone with information may contact DPS or Jang at (670) 483-6371.
