Apatang: Departments to clean up villages every other Monday afternoon
CNMI Governor David Apatang said all government departments will spend every other Monday afternoon cleaning Saipan’s villages.
He announced the initiative on March 31, 2026, at the Environmental Awareness Month proclamation signing. He said the plans would be finalized at a cabinet meeting this Thursday and they will work with the Marianas Visitors Authority, Department of Public Works, and Parks and Recreation.
“Every other Monday, I will give every department the afternoon off,” he said. Each department will be assigned to a certain village.
“We need to clean the island. We want to welcome our tourists here, so when they leave Saipan, they leave with a good impression,” Apatang said in his closing remarks.
He hopes it helps bring more tourists.
“Every department will be out in that afternoon. We are going to share the cleanup around the villages. We have to keep our villages clean.”
