A representative from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Department of the Interior will be on Saipan tomorrow following their visit to Guam today. Their visit is just for the day.

The CNMI Governor’s Chief of Staff Henry Hofschneider, told Marianas Press, ā€œ[BOEM] and DOI will be talking about the ongoing process for deep-sea mining lease sale.ā€

He added, ā€œAnd they will be meeting with the governor and separately with CNMI [government] agencies.ā€

Governor Apatang is expected to arrive tomorrow as well after federal meetings in Washington, D.C. and Hawaii.

Hofschneider said there are no planned public meetings.

He added, ā€Governor Apatang asked that BOEM make time to meet with the CNMI community and its response was this is its initial visit to the CNMI and public engagement was not scheduled but will be in follow up visits.ā€

This is a developing story on Marianas Press.
