CNMI Republican Party President Patrick Cepeda resigned from his position and is seeking the party's endorsement as he launches a campaign to represent Precinct 1 in the House of Representatives.
"While this decision was not made lightly, I firmly believe that accepting this responsibility is in the best interests of our Party and will help ensure that we field a strong and united team of candidates in the upcoming election," he wrote in a July 31, 2026, letter to the party's executive committee.
He added, "Although I am resigning from the office of Party President, my commitment to the CNMI Republican Party remains as strong as ever. I will continue to support our candidates, work alongside our members, and do everything within my ability to help our Party succeed. I have every confidence that the Party's leadership will continue to build upon the progress we have made together."
James Ada is the new president.
