The Commonwealth Election Commission has 18,517 registered voters for the Nov. 3 general elections, with the overwhelming majority—15,249—registered on Saipan, according to final figures released by the commission.
Tinian has 1,460 registered voters, Rota has 1,627, and the Northern Islands has 181, bringing the CNMI-wide total to 18,517 as of Sept. 14.
“Our voter registration numbers are at 18,517 as of today, Sept. 14,” CEC executive director Kayla Igitol Magofna told Marianas Press.
On Saipan, Precinct 1 has the largest combined voter population at 5,133. That includes 900 voters in Precinct 1A, or San Antonio; 2,883 in Precinct 1B, covering San Vicente and Dandan; and 1,350 in Precinct 1C, or Koblerville.
Precinct 2, covering Chalan Kanoa and Susupe, has 1,518 registered voters.
Precinct 3 has 4,083 voters, including 975 in Precinct 3A, or San Jose, and 3,108 in Precinct 3B, or Garapan.
Precinct 3A, or Tanapag, has 641 voters; Precinct 3B, or San Roque, has 590; and Precinct 3C, or Capitol Hill, has 395. Precinct 3D covers the Northern Islands and has 181 registered voters.
Precinct 4A, or Tanapag, has 641 voters; Precinct 4B, or San Roque, has 590; and Precinct 4C, or Capitol Hill, has 395. Precinct 4D covers the Northern Islands and has 181 registered voters.
Precinct 5, covering Kagman, has 2,889 voters, while Precinct 6 on Tinian has 1,460 and Precinct 7 on Rota has 1,627.
With voter registration completed, the CEC is now turning its attention to early and absentee voting ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
Early voting for the Northern Islands begins Friday, Sept. 18. Magofna said early voting for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will begin Oct. 27.
Another important date is Oct. 9, the deadline to apply for absentee voting by electronic transmission or mail.
“So our deadline is Oct. 9. Anybody that's not going to be here on election day, they need to request for an absentee ballot,” Magofna said.
The commission's election calendar lists Oct. 19 for the designation of polling places and distribution of listings. Early voting for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota begins Oct. 27 and ends Nov. 2, a day before the Nov. 3 general election.
Magofna said the commission is “pretty much set for this election.”
For the handful of voters physically residing in the Northern Islands, the commission is also looking to secure a vessel to send an election team north. Magofna said the CEC was still seeking a price quote for the trip.
She encouraged voters who may not be able to cast their ballots on election day to take advantage of early voting.
“I want them to come out and exercise their right to vote,” Magofna said.
