The Inetnun Kutturan Natibun Marianas/Kkoor Aramasal Marianas (IKNM/KAM) launched their latest book 'Kantan Chamorrita giya Marianas' at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in Susupe last Saturday evening, drawing community members and cultural leaders for an evening honoring the rich tradition of kantan Chamorrita.

Co-authored by Carmen S. Taimanao and Manny F. Borja, the 383-page bilingual book preserves hundreds of song verses—some dating back to 1924—collected from across the Marianas. Borja, who was present for the book launch, got to share some song snippets from the book as well as take questions from the gathered audience. Book proceeds went to support IKNM/KAM’s ongoing mission to preserve and promote Chamorro and Carolinian heritage for future generations.

Here’s a look at the event, captured by Chrystal Marino.
