Commonwealth Ports Authority Conducting Post-Typhoon Assessments Across All Airports and Seaports

The Commonwealth Ports Authority (CPA) is actively conducting damage assessments at all three airports and seaports in Saipan, Tinian, and Rota following the passage of Super Typhoon Bavi.

Airport Operations

At the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport and Commuter Terminal: Preliminary visual assessments indicate that the runway and taxiway are clear of debris and that runway and taxiway lighting remains in place and operational. CPA is currently assessing Jet Bridge 2 to restore it to operational status. Minor repairs to airfield signage and pavement markings are also underway. All navigational aids under FAA have been assessed and are operable. The Airport terminals have limited water supply, however, CUC provided a generator for the terminal’s main water source. The perimeter around the runway is secured. Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) operations are normal. The Saipan Airport , ARFF and the Tower are running on a generator.

Based on current assessments, the airport is able to resume daytime and nightime flight operations, subject to coordination with airlines and applicable regulatory requirements.

At the Francisco Manglona Borja/Tinian International Airport, the terminal building sustained damage and is operating without power. Portions of the airport perimeter fencing were damaged and are nearing full repair. The runway and taxiway remain clear of debris, allowing the airport to safely resume flight operations. The airport should be ready to open for daytime-only commercial flights beginning tomorrow morning, July 8, 2026.

The Benjamin Taisacan Manglona International Airport on Rota experienced the most significant impacts. A comprehensive assessment is still underway. Preliminary assessment and recovery work cleared the runway of debris; no radio communications or weather reporting capability; and windsock non-operation. However, pilots are advised to exercise extreme caution and must rely on visual to land. They are currently without power.

Seaport Operations

At the Port of Saipan, CPA personnel, in coordination with the United States Coast Guard, are conducting comprehensive assessments of port facilities and navigational conditions. Additional information regarding port operations will be released as inspections are completed. The Port of Saipan Office is running on a generator.

The Rota West Harbor, which had existing infrastructure challenges prior to Super Typhoon Bavi, is also being assessed. While CPA has not yet received a complete status report, it is anticipated that storm conditions may have further affected the facility. Updates will be provided once assessments are complete.

JEJU AIR: Resuming flights on July 9, 2026. ETA: 2:00 a.m. ETD: 3:05 a.m.

HONG KONG AIRLINES: Resuming flights on July 12, 2026.
