Community Invited to Shape Environmental Decisions at Free April 25 and 28 Workshops

Residents and agency representatives across the Commonwealth are invited to free public workshops on April 25 and April 28, 2026, designed to strengthen community and agency engagement in environmental decision-making for the Mariana Islands Training and Testing (MITT) Study Area Supplement Environmental Impact Statement.

Hosted by CNMI-based Our Common Wealth 670, the April 25 workshop is open to all community members and will feature a visiting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) expert who will guide participants in writing substantive public comments—an essential way for residents to influence development projects, infrastructure, and environmental protections.

The April 28 session is tailored for agency-level participants and technical stakeholders. It will focus on the regulatory, planning, and technical aspects of NEPA compliance, helping agencies and organizations provide structured input and coordinate with community priorities in the decision-making process.

Both workshops come at a crucial time as the community and agencies face ongoing decisions, including MITT and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) efforts to identify areas for future deep-sea mining. Informed input from residents and technical stakeholders is essential to ensure decisions reflect local knowledge, environmental priorities, and regulatory requirements.
