Big changes are coming to the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport as the Commonwealth Ports Authority targets the grand opening of its brand-new commuter terminal by the end of this year.

At the latest CPA board meeting, executive director Esther Ada shared an optimistic update on the long-anticipated facility when asked by Marianas Press.

ā€œIt’s with management. The punch list has been done. We do have the food concession award already. Now it is just a question of working and negotiating with the airlines, the two commuter airlines, to bring them into the commuter terminal, so we are working on those details,ā€ Ada explained.

The new terminal promises a more comfortable and convenient experience for inter-island travelers. It will feature four airline counters, a restaurant, upgraded restrooms, and a more spacious waiting area. A new canopy walkway will also connect the commuter terminal directly to the international terminal.

Ada added, ā€œMy target, which I shared with my managers, is we’ll be [open] before the end of the year. We are actively working on it.ā€

As final negotiations with commuter airlines such as Star Marianas and Micronesian Air Connection Services continue, the community can look forward to a refreshed airport experience.
