DPS seeks public’s help after Summer Snow burglary in Susupe
The Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man seen in surveillance footage following a burglary at Summer Snow in Susupe in the early morning of May 20.
According to DPS spokesperson Fred L. Sato, DPS 911 Dispatch received a report of a burglary at the business at approximately 11:10am on May 20.
Responding officers arrived on scene at about 11:24am and met with a female employee who reported that the business had been burglarized and several items were missing from inside the establishment.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly entered the business through a storage room window after removing the wood and padlock securing it. The window was later found on the ground outside the establishment.
Police said the business had been secured at around 9pm the evening before, May 19. Upon returning the following morning, the employee reportedly discovered that the cash register was missing. She also noticed that the supply closet door, normally kept closed, was open.
Authorities said an estimated $250 in change was reportedly kept inside the cashier drawer.
In a social media post that quickly circulated online, Summer Snow shared surveillance images of the suspect and appealed to the public for help.
“Please help us identify this person who broke into our store,” the business wrote in the post, adding that the incident happened while many residents and businesses are still recovering from the impacts of Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
The business also urged the individual involved to come forward and return the stolen property.
DPS said the burglary took place during a difficult recovery period for the island community already dealing with widespread storm-related losses and disruptions.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the identity of the individual shown in the surveillance footage to contact DPS or report it anonymously through the department’s tip line.
Those who have information about the Summer Snow burglary are urged to call the NMI Crime Stoppers tip line at (670) 664-9022.
