FBI debunks false claims in long-missing Luhk sisters case
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has dismissed recent social media claims that a woman appearing in a widely circulated online video is Faloma Luhk, one of two sisters who disappeared from Saipan more than 15 years ago.
In a statement, the FBI said it had investigated reports and online posts regarding a person claiming to be Faloma Luhk, who, along with her sister, Maleina Luhk, was reported missing from Saipan on May 25, 2011.
“Following thorough investigation, the FBI can confirm that these claims are entirely false,” the agency said. “The individual in question is not Faloma Luhk.”
The statement comes after a video posted on YouTube and shared across social media platforms drew attention in the CNMI and beyond.
In the video, a woman identified herself as “Faloma” Luhk and claimed she had been missing since she was 10 years old after being kidnapped while waiting at a bus stop.
During the approximately nine-minute interview, the woman made several statements about her identity and background, including claims that she was originally from Saipan and had been missing for years. The video's circulation prompted speculation online that the woman could be one of the missing Luhk sisters.
In the video, she also claims to be Hispanic and was from As Teo.
However, the FBI said its investigation determined the claims were not true.
The FBI said it remains committed to investigating the disappearance of the sisters and urged anyone with information about their whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding their disappearance to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI Honolulu Field Office at (808) 673-2896 or the FBI's toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324). Tips may also be submitted through local FBI offices, the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate, or online at tips.fbi.gov.
The agency also encouraged the public to rely on official sources for updates regarding the case.
“Official updates will only be issued when or if any new information has been confirmed by law enforcement through investigative processes,” the FBI said.
Faloma and Maleina Luhk were reported missing from Saipan on May 25, 2011. Their disappearance remains one of the CNMI's most high-profile unresolved missing persons cases.
