According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, on June 8, 2026, the CNMI requested $10.1 million in DUA benefits from the U.S. DOL. On June 10, 2026, the U.S. DOL endorsed and forwarded CNMI’s request to FEMA for processing. FEMA is currently reviewing the request to ensure compliance with programmatic guidelines.

FEMA outlined what happens next: “FEMA is expediting its review of CNMI’s request. Once the review is completed, FEMA will notify Congress of the

grant approval. After congressional notification, funds will be obligated to the U.S. Department of Labor and

disbursed to CNMI DOL to begin implementing the DUA program.”

In a separate interview, CNMI Labor Secretary Leila Staffler said it will take two months to launch the program after congressional approval. Staffler told MP, “It will take about two months to launch because we need to do some set up for procurement of resources and hiring and training.”
