FEMA Ready to Support CNMI, Guam

FEMA provided the following update as they prepare to respond to Super Typhoon Bavi:

-The Regional Response Coordination Center in Oakland, California remains activated, staffed with representatives from federal disaster response agencies to support Guam and CNMI emergency management offices.

-The National Response Coordination Center in Washington, D.C. is also activated with representatives from federal disaster response partner agencies, such as the ---

-Department of War, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and more.

-More than 300 FEMA personnel are already in CNMI and Guam to support current response operations and ongoing recovery efforts.

-FEMA deployed National Incident Management Assistance Teams (IMAT) to Guam and CNMI. These IMATs serve as the first federal teams on the ground, providing operational, logistical, planning, and coordination support to local emergency management officials leading response efforts.

-FEMA has liaisons activated in Guam and CNMI’s Emergency Operations Center providing technical support.

-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is prepared to assist with mission assignments related to temporary power and debris clearance in the affected areas.

-Federal teams are postured and prepared to move into the hardest hit areas with life-sustaining supplies following landfall.

-FEMA’s Distribution Center in Guam is stocked with water, meals, cots, and other critical supplies, which can be delivered to the territories if needed.

-Temporary roofing materials are staged and available in Saipan, with additional materials at FEMA’s Distribution Center in California.

-FEMA has proactively scheduled cargo aircraft charters post-storm to deliver generators and meals ready to eat as soon as it is safe to do so. In addition, waterborne shipments of generators and equipment are enroute.

-Voluntary organizations have distributed water in Saipan and Rota and are actively deploying disaster teams and relief supplies.
