Intentional self-care and wellness are important for every person, especially during challenging times. That was the message Cazimi Escape and Relax’s Rhea Backe shared with Marianas Press just days before Super Typhoon Sinlaku hit the Marianas. As the Marianas continues to recover from the devastation, the Saipan-based business has reopened and is now more focused than ever on providing a space where community members can de-stress, relax, and mentally reset.

Backe shared that she opened Cazimi Escape and Relax on June 22 last year with the goal of bringing something unique to the island’s wellness scene.

Inspired by her own experiences dealing with stress, Backe envisioned a calming environment where people could truly unwind physically and mentally.

What makes Cazimi different, according to Backe, is its emphasis on organic and non-toxic products. She shared that the spa’s services incorporate natural ingredients such as papaya, moringa, coconut oil, lavender, and rosemary—elements carefully selected to promote relaxation and wellness.

“We really put a lot of thought into making sure that we provide non-toxic items,” she said.

Upon entering the spa, guests are welcomed with a fresh wellness shot made from locally sourced fruits and vegetables, including pineapple, cucumber, or carrots, depending on market availability. Clients are then guided through their selected services before beginning their treatment experience.

Along with a variety of services, including head spa treatments, body scrubs, massages, and foot scrubs, one of the spa’s standout features is its convertible treatment table, designed to minimize interruptions during sessions by adjusting automatically for different treatments instead of requiring clients to move from room to room.

“It’s all about comfort and making the experience seamless,” Backe explained.

She shared that the spa is also planning to expand its offerings in the future with nail services once a nail technician joins the team.

Beyond physical relaxation, Backe believes wellness spaces like Cazimi are especially important during stressful times. “It’s really, really important to reset yourself and align yourself so that you can focus and work,” she said. “Your performance is much better if you are well-rested and mentally situated. This place is not just to relax your body, but also your mind.”

Backe also expressed gratitude to the local community for supporting the business since its opening.

“Our local community is so great, and we are so grateful,” she said. “Finding Cazimi as a place to relax is just beautiful.”
