The U.S. Forest Service is on Saipan all week for the 2026 Forest Inventory and Analysis, or FIA, in the CNMI.

Steve Trimble is leading a team of visiting U.S. Forest Service members and training local professionals from Saipan, Tinian, Rota, Chuuk, and Yap.

They will be visiting sites across the CNMI, which were first visited in 2004 to measure forest health.

ā€œFIA is important because it gives the forest managers tools to understand that status of the forest,ā€ Trimble told Marianas Press.

There are 38 plots in the CNMI that are being monitored — 16 in Saipan, 12 on Tinian, and 10 on Rota.
