Yoshiyuki Tomi was assigned to lead the Consular Office of Japan in Saipan in December.

ā€œI would like to make the relationship between Saipan and Japan closer. I would like to strengthen the relationship between Saipan and Japan,ā€ he told Marianas Press at a recent event in Saipan.

Meanwhile, according to the latest report from the Marianas Visitors Authority, visitor arrivals from Japan reached 989 in November 2025 compared to 479 in November 2024, a 107% increase and the fourth consecutive month of growth from the market.

When asked how the CNMI might be able to revive the tourism market, Tomi responded, ā€œThat is a very difficult question, but I will do my best. I will do my best.ā€

He said, ā€œI want to make the Japanese people visit Saipan and enjoy the good environment and the very beautiful sea and sky of Saipan.ā€
