MCCA launches fundraising drive to help Rota recover from Super Typhoon Bavi

The Micronesia Climate Change Alliance has launched a fundraising drive to help Rota residents recover after the island took a direct hit from Category 5 Super Typhoon Bavi, with donations going directly toward meeting the most urgent needs identified by local households.
The alliance is accepting donations through its online platform, asking contributors to designate their gift for "Luta" to ensure the funds are directed to Rota's recovery efforts. According to the campaign, the money will provide relief, hope, and resources needed to help communities rebuild and heal following consecutive super typhoons.
The organization said the assistance will be based on feedback from nearly 200 Rota households following Super Typhoon Sinlaku, with the same needs expected to remain critical after Bavi. The top priorities identified by residents are food, including rice, canned goods and ready-to-eat meals; butane gas and cooking fuel; cleaning supplies; water; and hygiene essentials. "Every need on this list came directly from Luta households. Your donation goes straight to meeting them."
In its appeal, the alliance said Rota was struck by Bavi before it had time to recover from the previous storm. It noted that many families remain without power, many homes are still without roofs, schools have yet to fully recover, and businesses remain closed, leaving livelihoods on hold.
The campaign also highlighted the broader challenges facing the island, saying residents are enduring stronger storms and less time to recover between disasters. "We deserve the chance to thrive outside of survival. This isn't just bad weather. It is climate injustice."
In a message accompanying the fundraiser, organizers wrote, "If you have the capacity, please consider supporting mutual aid for our island community as we prepare for and recover together. Every act of care, no matter how small, helps.”
Donations may be made through MCCA’s online donation page at its official website or through the donation link in the organization's social media profiles. Donors are asked to type "Luta" in the donation text box to ensure their contributions are earmarked for Rota relief and recovery.
