In line with Governor David M. Apatang’s request for a Presidential Declaration of a Major Disaster, and the approval granted by Donald Trump on April 12, 2026, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) informs the public that it is actively working to secure disaster relief assistance following the devastating impacts of Category 5 Super Typhoon Sinlaku. CNMI NAP has been in continuous coordination with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to request emergency food assistance to support affected households. This request encompasses the entire Commonwealth, including Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands. At this time, NAP is working closely with local and federal partners to assess damages, gather critical data, and prepare the required documentation to support the request for disaster-related benefits. We recognize the significant hardships many families are experiencing during this recovery period. NAP remains committed to ensuring that assistance is delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible to those in need. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. We thank the community for its continued patience, strength, and resilience during this challenging time.
