Landon Aydlett with the National Weather Service on Guam said 09W is now a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 40mph.

As of 3 a.m. on July 02, 2026, he said, “Early this morning, it was located near 10.1N 161.9E moving northwest. It’s expected to steadily intensify, with the likelihood for rapid intensification as it maintains a track toward the Marianas.”

“This is, and remains, a very concerning situation. All islands of the Marianas from Guam to Pagan are fair game for a possible direct passage of yet, another monster,” he added.

He urges residents to stay tuned for the latest updates and to be prepared.

This is a developing story on Marianas Press.
